Reflecting on some of what I saw at Connect this week: I think the “metaverse” marketing from previous years really distorted people’s perception of what Meta is working towards. The avatars, horizon, etc are baggage from their social DNA.

Orion is the real future. And if it works, I’m excited.

Ah. I'm not convinced. Everyone says "metaverse" but no utility has ever been demonstrated beyond office work.

For casual use it's a completely new entertainment and compute platform that goes beyond everything we've seen so far. Not many apps but even now those simple games and movies give me wow moments

Quite the opposite. Most marketing around this is office work because consumers like that but that’s a promise that has yet to be met. The utility of today’s AR devices has been mostly for field workers in construction, manufacturing, automotive, etc.
