VC’s are who grabs the ball at the 1 yard line. They’re private funding.

But there’s a good chance crypto isn’t the exception, I’m not willing to do all the reading required to find out though…

but I am not sure that crypto is the exception :( ... Crypto also is heavily vc funded (mostly) thus the success is not decentralized :/

Other industries completely reliant on government r&d: all pharmaceuticals, aerospace, automobiles, pesticides, green energy, etc

not disagreeing (railroads, telecoms, vaccines) but there's plenty of examples like iPhone (smartphones), personal computers, Amazon (eCommerce).

Of course your counterpoint is going to be drilling down some publicly funded service that was needed for that private company to make their breakthrough.
