Yeah, but esp with AI, getting rid of bots sees unlikely on social networks - looks like we’ll just have to embrace them!

I suspect that the best tool against bots is social signals and automated banhammer tool. I can often tell relatively easily when a bot is, so sending a signal that could be crowd sourced and crowd verified could be a sure shot way to build reliable "bot databases", then automate banning the users that have crossed that threshold on your own account. I personally manually do that extensively, but its painful, and doesn't help anyone else. On the downside, I suppose it would incentivize botters to build "smarter" strategies, but then the "community notes" of sorts would likely catch up, added to the 5 USD upfront cost, most likely it would mitigate widespread bots.
