To be fair to news/media outlets, social media platforms get to embed part of the article as a free dinner and almost zero revenue flows to the outlets. News media in general has had declining revenue for ages so it doesn't really matter if Meta or anyone stops showing news outlets, they will go bankrupt either way. Meta and other platforms make a ton of money from the discussion etc generated by these articles but never pay anything back. It will unfortunately probably be a net loss for society when all the outlets are bankrupt (save for a few independent journalists who are really good, most of the alternatives are terrible)

Got a similar case here in France, Europe because newspaper where accusing Google News to use there content for free and not drive content to there website and so they get less traffic so less revenue, something like that Here an article I've found with a quick search : https://www.lemonde.fr/en/international/article/2024/11/14/france-court-orders-google-to-halt-news-search-results-scheme_6732821_4.html "Google and other online platforms have in recent years been accused of making billions from news without sharing the revenue with those who gather it. To tackle this, the European Union created a form of copyright called "neighboring rights" that allows print media to demand compensation for using their content." But this Newspaper vs Google News is not the first time I hear about it
