To me this whole thing is also a case study on the danger of the over-intellectualized "moral systems" which get pushed by many Academics onto smart kids.

Yes. I am also saying that many academics treat morality as if it is some completely logical and explainable system rather than – in large part – an act of individual judgment, common sense, and simple decency.

Applying logical systems like Utilitarianism to moral life can have disastrous consequences.
