One of the things I most enjoyed in my recent trip to Japan; the family-operated restaurants, cafes, shops, bars owned by a 1-2 friends who love bartending, the grandma with a sandwich shop only open on weekends. Everything is financially viable - seems like an impossible standard these days.

Right? And those places are so quality as a result. Honestly it's the same in Quebec - a ton of quality small shops.
