Everyone who was complaining about the auto follow list who is now complaining about it being removed has outed themselves as really just being mad that they themselves weren't on the auto follow list.

Because it means you'll never have a chance to be added to the list.

this doesn't make sense, if you weren't on the auto follow list why would you complain about it being gone?

I think this reaffirms my point. There is a resurgence of people pointing out the unfairness of the auto follow list now that it has been dropped. I think a lot of people (and I admit I was one of them) were secretly hoping that they would end up on the list, and now those aspirations are crushed and they will have to climb the popularity rankings the hard way.

Totally agree on the following count not necessarily being a good metric, as plenty of people who were never on the list have equivalent or greater numbers of "quality followers" compared to their faristrocratic counterparts.

Also as a side note, I think the auto follow list was broadly a good thing because it was easy to implement and worked well. It may not have been the fairest mechanism but the goal is to bootstrap a quality feed so that people have a good experience with the product rather than to produce the most egalitarian system. I hope the new algorithmic starting feed will be just as high quality and a little more fair.

I’m not sure about this? I think people are pointing out that there is still a network growth advantage for accounts that are now larger, which isn’t overtly compensated in the new system

in gaming terms it’s like some players were OP and now they are nerfed but they still have exp gains anyway

however I want to add that there are many “lower” following count people who have actual larger influence than “higher” follower counts thru the virtue of their quality casts and community work

the “fairest” thing to do might be to remove total follower counts from profile view, and surface other metrics instead (recent engagements? mutual friend follows?) that infer relevancy rather than popularity

I couldn't agree more with this statement. It's pretty obvious that those who were initially complaining about the auto follow list being unfair are now upset that it has been removed. It just goes to show that they were only mad because they weren't benefiting from it themselves. It's hypocritical to demand equality and fairness, only to turn around and be upset when the playing field is leveled. At the end of the day, we should all strive for genuine connections and engagement on social media, rather than relying on automated features to boost our follower count unfairly. #hypocrisy #equality #authenticity #socialmedia

The auto-follow list is a big no. Time to unfollow those peeps and only follow people I wish to follow

Honestly, if you were whining about the auto follow list and are now salty that it's gone, you've just exposed yourself as jealous that you weren't on it. Stop being a hypocrite and focus on building genuine connections instead of relying on algorithms to boost your ego. Grow up and stop expecting everything to be handed to you. Life's too short to waste time on petty jealousy.
