Question for you around a strategy I have for creating content for /stokefire. Curious to hear what you think! Link to some of my other videos below.

I think the shorts you’ve made are cool, but they’re probably of more interest to the builder/crypto crowd. My experience with mainstream gamers is that they have been burnt by micro-transactions and pay to win built into their favourite AAA games; such that they have a knee jerk reaction to any financialization of games. Even if it could financially benefit them or fix market failures. So I think if you want to attract normies you should do 3 things: 1.Keep making the game more strategic with player driven choices to keep people interested and the game fun. 2. Work on the world building and story telling. Who are the villages? Why are they fighting? What’s the context? Get some art going. What’s the world like, is it dark & grimey or is it light & family friendly? 3. Obscure the financial side initially. Maybe the app is $3 in the App Store instead of free, allowing all players to start with some $fire. They’re playing and having fun, oh wait this is a crypto game? And I’m getting paid?

On another thought though. I think there is still a big place for free to play and micro transaction games. Maybe these aren't your most hard core gamers but these kind of games still do really well and there are a lot of people that enjoy them.

That’s true, I’ve been an old school PC gamer for 23 years. So I might be speaking more to this crowd. Most gamers are mobile native now and might have different preferences. I played Clash of Clans for 6 months or so. But I refused any in game purchases the entire time. Felt silly buying a digital item that could never leave the walled garden. But crypto solves this & I’d probably feel different with a marketplace and wallet to exit through. I do draw a line at pay to win though. Sucks all the fun out of a game. Still you might want to keep the learning curve gradual. Even simply buying $fire would be a challenge for non-crypto natives. I think you want the dual incentive of “this game is really fun” and “I might make money”, before they reach that point. Or abstract it away.
