Zorro is a character in folk stories of New Spain from the 17th century.  According to legend, under the mask of Zorro there was not one specific person, but different people. When times got tough, anyone could put on a homemade Zorro costume and anonymously come to the rescue.

I didn’t know either, although I’ve watched the movie many times🙂
