Years back, I spent 5 weeks hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain, and one of my favorite things about it was the very common communal meals at long tables such as this article describes. Realistically you can only converse with those in your immediate vicinity, but the lines between conversational zones can be so diffuse as to be nonexistent.

That sounds beautiful. I also love the "turn every meal into a banquet" the author uses in the end. That makes it even more aspirational. If I ever open a cafe, long tables only haha
