I used to buy books on how to do black magic when I was young—but they were really just kids’ books about collecting weird stuff.

Hmm, there are only a few of them I watch over and over again, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Shining, Alien, Silence of the Lambs...
In general I like stories involving voodoo, occult rituals and black magic. I think the first season of True Detective had a dark southern gothic atmosphere. And then the last season from Alaska was also awesome. But it was more of thriller than horror, however still pretty harsh.
