great write up of the small web and resources ^-^ neocities is great for easy hosting. u can also host websites relatively easily on github pages. there are lots of places now for all skill levels! i found this line weird tho "I had assumed that corporations would improve the Internet with much more interesting content." did ppl really think this?? i always saw the internet as interesting bc it could provide content direct from the ppl and bypass top down mass content

hmm yea, a bit strange. maybe they would implying that they could have potentially done more with their resources instead of mining data for marketing etc. dunno. i agree i always enjoyed just searching and searching and finding random content from all over the world. i think it was my initial draw to nfts and crypto, people creating from all over and expression (in its purest form i suppose). i've been slowly identifying how to get away from the subscriptions and detach from big companies, but the weening process has been slow.

i just think the end goal of corporate interests is to capitalize and make money rather than provide interesting content. tho those things are not mutually exclusive, "interesting content" is often a slow burn – too slow for quarterly earnings reports and that's how we end up with enshittification (╥_╥)
