1960: MKAD On November 22, a new ring appeared in Moscow, called the MKAD. More precisely, only the first section of the highway, 48 kilometers long, opened that year. The ring closed on November 5, 1962. It’s interesting that initially the Moscow Ring Road looked completely different. It looked more like a cozy highway somewhere in the Moscow region. Today it is a real highway with numerous interchanges and lanes for cars.
