I’ve been making these animations since 1290, way before Flows even existed. I started doing them with the hope that one day I could afford a Noun using $NOUN from the /nouns and /noc rounds — but I kept going even when there were no rewards. Then Flows came along — and sure, some incentives are there, but they’ve never been huge. I’ve stayed because I want to show my work, because I want more people in the community to see it, to use it in their projects… not because @pip eventually posted a prop to retrofund those efforts (which didn’t pass anyway). But I’m still here — doing this for the recognition, for the community to see what I can do, and to understand how I want to be useful and can contribute meaningfully. I believe money will come one way or another. But if wanting to be compensated at some point for your work is seen as having “bad intentions”… then we’ve really missed the point.

For artists, the act of creating is their job. Why should they be embarrassed about getting paid for it? Doing fun things without pay is entirely their own choice. It's like a pop star singing Happy Birthday at a friend's birthday party without pay.
