I wonder if the state of language recapitulates the history of cultural evolution. Maybe it is why ML is possible. Language itself is a trained model of reality so LLMs are a distillation of that learning 🤔 It’s a kind of “ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny” thing Argument is more obscure for image generation and recognition though. Maybe it’s all just distillation of evolution as the OG very slow training run of life.

visual datasets etc. represent less of a phylogeny i guess because there's less history in it. may be an invitation for automatic feeds of physical dataset entries cc @july
