Update: went with the Yoto Box for our 2 year old and we love it. Think ‘iPod for toddlers’ but without any flashy screens or need for digital apps. The kid just turns it on and inserts one of many story cards. We had grandparents pre-record bedtime stories and “happy birthday” songs so they were ready when it was first opened. ✅ Pros: - grandparents and family can record their own playlists of songs and bedtime stories for the kid from afar - zero need for the kid to use an app - comes with a library of prebaked cards/recordings including kid songs and stories (e.g. wheels on the bus, Robinhood, old McDonald, etc.) ❌ Cons: - attempting to teach grandparents how to do audio recordings 🎤 - now we have to manage a stream of new stories and songs from family - device is a little too big for quick car rides https://us.yotoplay.com/yoto-player

Just turned two. There are still some parts of using it that require oversight, but he loves the box and the music/stories.
