Update: went with the Yoto Box for our 2 year old and we love it. Think ‘iPod for toddlers’ but without any flashy screens or need for digital apps. The kid just turns it on and inserts one of many story cards. We had grandparents pre-record bedtime stories and “happy birthday” songs so they were ready when it was first opened. ✅ Pros: - grandparents and family can record their own playlists of songs and bedtime stories for the kid from afar - zero need for the kid to use an app - comes with a library of prebaked cards/recordings including kid songs and stories (e.g. wheels on the bus, Robinhood, old McDonald, etc.) ❌ Cons: - attempting to teach grandparents how to do audio recordings 🎤 - now we have to manage a stream of new stories and songs from family - device is a little too big for quick car rides https://us.yotoplay.com/yoto-player

Yoto mini nice too. Can’t see wanting the big one tbh. I wish more of the data was actually local and didn’t need internet, but I love the minimal ability to share small deliberate amounts of digital content. Definitely space for a video enabled one too.

The mini looks great, especially for travel. The bigger size is nice for us because it forces the kiddo to slow down a little when engaging with it. Too big to run fast around the house with it. 100% agree — ideally it would have zero internet connection and require no apps.
