I've found I get better results from custom GPTs and Assistants when the knowledge files are in .txt format (versus PDF). If you're using Mac, here's a super simple folder action workflow you can build using the Automator app that will extract the text from any PDF and save it as a .txt to your desktop.

You can also turn it into a service so it will be in your right click menu
