I've heard this expression and don't quite get it ;-p  I'd love to know why you perceive it this way - what's the difference between a mixtape and an album - this is a genuine ask :-). Also - if you've listened to it all - what's your current opinion?

Kendrick albums feel like movies imho.  Mr. morale and GKMC really embody that. 

Chromakopia (by Tyler) is another good “album” example. 

Mixtapes are often just songs thrown together that are really good on their own.
