Truth is that drug developers have to run expensive studies, pay for expensive manufacturing, and large regulatory, medical, and technical staff for years for many drugs.  Problem is that if US isn’t price gouged, companies do not have a market large enough to be profitable.

True, but there wouldn’t be such an imbalance except that the US has the most free market(for better or worse) and they are incentivized to exploit it all the more because profits don’t come from other sources.  Best solution is better payment globally and more price controls in the US

It costs close to $100k/patient for an oncology clinical trial, 2-300 for phase 2, 1-2000 for phase 3, ongoing phase 4, market access studies.  Easy to reach $500M on just the clinical R&D, doesn’t include preclinical, marketing, staff salaries, and any acquisition/licensing costs

Their “RD budget” goes for advertisements and fancy promos. They always use RD to justify these expenses and its just plain false. Plenty of citations for this. I work in healthcare and at large academic research hospitals.

Open source all medications, start building infrastructure to support this (at least for generics. US lacks this), get rid of years long patents and loopholes. Then let the companies fight for dominance. I bet prices would drop.

Its a systemic problem between politicians, lobbyists, and special interests including big pharma. RD is a psyop!
