Here’s how I defined builder in my “why I love farcaster” essay: A builder creates something that wouldn't exist in this world but for them and their effort. Whether it's software, an app, a website, a company, a brand, a blog, a poem, a meal, a photograph, a painting, a family. True builders are inherently positive sum people. https://paragraph.xyz/@adrienne/why-i-love-farcaster

It's a generic term that can include a wide-range of skill sets. For a lot of projects, you need developers, testers, business developers, marketers, community-managers, etc etc. Lots of Web3 projects, for example, might start with one or two people fulfilling multiple roles, so calling them a developer doesn't really describe everything they do... so using the term 'builder' can be easier to include everyone at once instead of listing everyone specifically.

defined broadly to be one who creates something that can be used by another person, e.g. app, tool, protocol, etc. depends on who you ask whether it includes (or excludes) creators or artists who also make something that can be consumed, enjoyed, and appreciated
