The NBA is the perfect sport for edutainment media wave. Massive pool of content to chop up (30 teams, 82 game season plus playoffs, cup etc.); big analytics landscape to spin narratives and wage battles over; league institutions are for player media empowerment; legacy media is pure hot take filth for the most part and people are pushed to look elsewhere for “in depth analysis”; sports gambling capital flowing in and enabling distributed analysis and commentary. Doesn’t seem like any other sport has this potent a mix.

Additional key factor I missed (and orig. heard when player salary growth was being discussed): individual players (esp superstars) are focal points. They’re 20% of the people on the court and contribute to both offense and defence every time while on the court.

what sort of products do you think are best fit for this next wave aside from sports gambling?
