We spend and spend and spend and hold nothing in our hands

it’s a feature not a bug

people want convenience more than ownership now. subscriptions and “as a service” models give us instant access without the hassle of storing or maintaining stuff… it’s great! we traded long-term ownership for on-demand convenience.

some good and some bad.  Some services it makes more sense than others.  But in the end we will own nothing and be happy.  Sounds like you already agree
