I’ve played BGs for nearly 20 years, and never cared much about who won. It’s always been about the fun. Recently I became curious: if I had kept stats for these last 20 years, what insights would they show? So I did some research on tracking boardgame stats and here is what I learned…

The best boardgame stats app I’ve found is BGStats: https://www.bgstatsapp.com It is able to track every stat I’d care about for any game, and I started to log my plays with my friends. This was the first step down a rabbit hole that I didn’t realize was so deep…

This is excellent. My wife and I have been playing a long running game of Rumy 50000, which we track score in a notes app. But I frequently want to track deeper stats like this, specifically turn time and "turn overs" (where you discard a card that an opponent can pickup). This thread gives me inspiration to go deeper!

Ohh the frustration from my wife many years back when I was like “I think I’ve won the last 10 boggle matches”. Decided it was best not to track too much after she responded. I wasn’t tracking, it’s less fun now. though I used to write notable scores inside the scrabble box with pencil.

Thanks for the links! I wonder if anyone's tried a camera over the table using AI to automatically parse gameplay? Now you can see who favors what strategies over time, who has the luckiest dice rolls... Checking for (presumably unintentional) rules violations, automatic banking to your phone app, etc
