In "The Comfort Crisis" by Michael Easter, a study in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise found that running exerts forces 8 times greater than body weight per stride, while walking exerts about 2.7 times. For a 175-pound person, this means each running stride loads the knees with about 1,400 pounds, compared to 470 pounds when walking. Should we switch to walking only now???
