Of sonnets I've heard but never quite known 
How to compose in form or theme
Now Claude I applaud for having shown
Two types, both lines of fourteen

First, Italian's octave tuned two Dancing Queens
That's ABBAABBA played on cassette
Mamma Mia is next to sing on the scene
That CDCDCD skipping is a sestet

Second, of English, thrice quatrains are sung,
ABAB CDCD EFEF, to wit
A Good Game couplet to close with h/t to those
Whose Spears Shake to Billy & Brit  

With that shethinks, "Am I neither wench nor dame?"
Billy, say he, playing with her heart, "Alas, I have done it again"

Who knew learning and writing about sonnets was so fun. h/t @horsefacts.eth for prompting the idea
