A dream: I am watching a man fishing from a dock in the bay. He catches something and an angry polar bear emerges from the water depths, pulling the man in and attacking him. Orca whales appear, freeing the man from the bear's deathly grip. They splash the man back to the dock, and he lays there fighting for his life.

Still sitting with the interpretation, but I think the man is my Ego and the polar bear is my Shadow. Recently, I've been "fishing" for answers to combat feelings of isolation, loneliness, and self-sabotage and, in doing so, am "provoking the bear"...
