Loss is a forcing function for appreciation When you lose a loved on, you really realize how much you loved them, and appreciated them When you lose your health, you really appreciate how much your health matters to you When you become an adult, you really appreciate what your parents did for you to be here

"Distance makes the heart grow fonder" has always resonated with me. Its resonance rings especially true in times of loss and longing - losing a loved one, missing a lover, longing for time passed. I've found the magnitude of distance is proportionate to appreciation. The distance between life and death especially.
