I’m at one of my first startup networking events in Silicon Valley, and this girl walks up to me. She introduces herself by her name, her company name, and then ends with, “I went to Harvard.” When I responded in the same order and let her know I went to Indian Hills Community College, she quickly walked away. To this day, I wonder if she did so, because I was wearing cowboy boots, or if it’s because she was too embarrassed by not knowing where Indian Hills Community College is located.
