That’s probably part of the reason Tumblr didn’t take off but was such a cool feature. Trains critical thinking and thoughtfulness although you have to grind your reputation more

Not as much in comparison to the other leading social apps of its time. IG ate most of his market share too. Still alive, had 100M+ MAU (idk what it is today), and did better than VSCO tho.

that's fair. I feel like tumblr was everywhere just before instagram took off, around 2013, but the arrival of IG really hurt them for sure

It was everywhere. Still one of my favorite products. Glad Automattic picked it up and kept it going. Excited to see if the ActivityPub integration actually comes. I think about if we open the time window to 100-200 years, deeming social winners could change. IG/FB may not be as sustainable although they’re king

I would be so happy to see the ActivityPub integration! Being able to make my WordPress blog AP-friendly was really wonderful. I wish everything was so easily interoperable
