This is a good decision. Preferenxe falsification is a big problem in society and we need to see people's honest views. It would be really cool if Farcaster follows it, by implementing ZK likes. Can probably borrow technology from zupoll. https://x.com/wanghaofei/status/1793096366132195529

Strong agree with this. Also think follow graphs should be private for similar reasons. Fought for this at X but never managed to get it done.

I think it’s a very interesting idea, but requires some more thinking about how to implement it correctly. We would need to encode *some* data about the source of a like because spammy accounts today like a lot of stuff to get things to be boosted in algorithms.

My bet is that most if not nearly-all users on Farcaster want other users to see when they like their casts.

Now I'm conflicted as to whether I should like this cast 😅 I'd like to still see some engagement metric on other people's casts, if anything to see what my fellow casters are reacting to (but maybe that's self-fulfilling). In the absence of a downvote button, though, that metric would just be a 1:1 proxy for likes

My first thought is it’s would be easier to bot (or for bots to operate) since it’s harder for anyone to report them without being able to differentiate organic vs inorganic engagement?

I get what you're saying, but I kind of think it might be a good thing for people to feel embarrassed about liking stupid tweets.

The order of likes; i.e. am I the first to like this post; should be in the graph.

I'd love to see something like an anon comment pool under posts as well, with each comment selectively revealing some info about the commenter (num followers, followed by specific user, etc..). Then clients can sort through anon comments based off whatever algo they choose to implement

The cool thing with Farcaster is that we already have off-protocol gestures. For example gifting warps, or using a frame action to donate $degen.

+100. It's also amusing that this is currently a paid feature on Twitter. I enabled it a while back and it changed how I interacted with the app and my feed in a positive way.

Interesting. But isn't it too much of a battle against symptoms? The issue is not preference falsification, but the pressure people feel that forces them to do so. We need to understand that it should be okay to be who you are. It's crazy that we need to hide in fear of trolls.

Disagree tbh, respectfully ofc. "the ratio" is the best form of community moderation on twitter. The reduction in social signal & community utility through things like "trusted" blue ticks changes, cutting api access, removing "likes" makes twitter increasingly less useful.
