My humble political ETH opinion: Cypherpunk ideals are dumb and we should adopt more of the viewpoints of the extropians. The extropians believed bottom up financial technology is a massive unlock for society and its ability to absorb swaps of time and risk. It allows your society to think longer term and not get rekt, and if you look at how people move from poverty to wealth, its essential to getting there. Considering the EF has to be begged to use the products, you can see they look down on this. The reality is DeFi is the fundamental thing with traction and use cases that everyone can use to engage in global finance and secure property rights. The punks are anti-finance to a fault. You cannot gain traction and users with promises of kumbaya. Ethereum is far too punk, where we ostracized financial primitive protocols that give much more power to users than any technology ever could have. By silencing the financiers, you only left the loudest scammers with huge marketing budgets in the room.

no, you're dishonest af there are plenty of examples of solid DeFi like algorithmic stables and lending markets. but where is the zero-knowledge casino with zero takerate? instead we have these gaudy shilled products that design against DeFi users, forcing deadweight loss just to sponsor jetsetting lifestyle.
