We did this to ourselves. Overfinancialization is a net negative on the space and the mainstream has no interest in it. 

Anyone that can evaluate technology critically without letting their biases cloud their thinking should be able to look past hyperfinancialization and see the benefits that blockchains have to offer to distributed systems which is absolutely relevant to AT protocol and decentralized social as a whole

i agree, there are many benefits. but in the eyes of the public, the only thing crypto is used for is being a casino, which is mostly correct. 
this is not going to change if the industry itself doesn't change.

Sure. But public opinion matters to get mainstream adoption.

but the most relevant public opinion imo is the perception that users have of a given implementation of a technology, more than the technology per se

the truth is that we haven’t seen an implementation of this tech that allows users to use it without it being an overhead. but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen
