The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) accused Consensys of offering securities inside the MetaMask wallet and operating as an unregistered broker.

Filed in the Eastern District of New York, the lawsuit also covers Ethereum staking services from Lido and Rocket Pool.

SEC takes Metamask seriously
According to court documents, MetaMask has processed more than 36 million crypto transactions over the past four years. Of these, at least 5 million are associated with Polygon (MATIC), Mana (MANA), Chiliz (CHZ), the Sandbox (SAND) and Luna (LUNA) tokens, which the SEC considers unregistered securities.
