a common theme across the 50+ interviews we've done in the last 10 days is that it is HARD for new users to get started, know where to cast, find their footing and like-minded people. starter packs, /gmfarcaster, FC newsletters, and finding a "onboarding buddy" help — what else? what needs to be better? how?

Channels support newbies. It's where we find non-tech content we can understand and contribute to. We find our first frens and community. Helping channel owners and mods create the best channel possible benefits everyone. Encourage average users to launch channels so more voices emerge as leaders. Channel academy, maybe?

hmmm this is good feedback, but channel discovery still too tough that i feel they would still be shouting into the void until it's an established channel with some visibility. better to join existing channel or start one on their own?

Agree. The first members of my channel were frens who wanted to support me. So joining and supporting other channels to make frens first, and understand FC a bit. Then creating a channel once a need or open niche is identified. This way, hosts are supported by frens to start, but can build their channel as they meet others who share their interest.
