There’s a big difference is how political (for lack of a better term) these “things” are. 

Account abstraction is far on the wonky, apolitical end of the spectrum while liquid staking is far on the political end. 

Not sure one governance model can handle both elegantly but maybe it can work

Good point. The vast majority of Ethereum users won't know or care about adding a secp256k precompile.

But enshrining liquid staking would probably be highly contentious.
