Should Ethereum be ok with enshrining more things in the protocol? https://vitalik.eth.limo/general/2023/09/30/enshrinement.html

As with social systems in the real world, private sector does most work, but the public sector coordinates things where the private sector solutions may be fragile or unfair. For Ethereum, I'd support enshrinement only when the solution is simple & elegant and the benefits obvious, or it's a necessity.

I think Ethereum should remain composable with simple primitives like Linux tools Philosophy. It's very easy to adopt the tech-de-jour (ZK, ePBS, private mem pools) which may not be necessary for all users. Compose protocols > Kitchen sink. https://tldp.org/LDP/GNU-Linux-Tools-Summary/html/c1089.htm

I feel Ethereum's core strength lies in its decentralization and adaptability Any new in-protocol feature should be rigorously examined for its impact on these principles I favor minimal enshrinement—focusing on empowering individual users and retaining system flexibility TLDR—proceed with abundant caution

Generally, but very carefully, I think yes For specific examples here, I am strongly for 4337 enshrinement Complex, dynamic, and even emergent structures of accounts are very interesting (futuarchy, ungovernance) Reducing complexity at the protocol level would likely enable more expressiveness at the structure layer

There’s a big difference is how political (for lack of a better term) these “things” are. Account abstraction is far on the wonky, apolitical end of the spectrum while liquid staking is far on the political end. Not sure one governance model can handle both elegantly but maybe it can work

I’m sure smart wallets are needed for mass adoption and their efficiency could benefit if erc4337 is adopted by the protocol

Follow-up question, how much do you value protocol ossification?

When are you guys going to focus on getting rid of MEV? Arbitrage is usually good since it puts things in order. MEV is stealing. I can’t barely do any transaction these days without having to pay the MEV tax. Please guys do something about it

There should be a DA (data availability) role for Ethereum protocol, just like validator, keeping data secure/available and available will be a core requirement as more and more L2s L3s

I hate to say it, but it's ultimately up to personal preference. One's "this is too much bundling/enshrinement" is another's "we need more built-in/enshrined features". It's likely that within 2 decades, there'll be a movement to cut down on the # of enshrined protocols. Whether that's successful is uncertain.

I don't get the no-risk enshrined LSD. PoS isn't the same without slashing, but more so, at this point, why the extra token? Just give the rewards to every native ETH holder. And then we go back to square one, there is no added value to ETH holders here. What am I missing?
