That seems the argument, but couldn’t improved standards for a smaller population also drive economic growth?

Also, there is a physical limit to human bodies on this sphere, and it’d probably be undesirable well before it.

Sure but their populations and economies will be largely independent due to gravity and distance, unless special relativity is wrong.
