I personally think "own/control your own data" being the punchline for most web3 products is at best extremely weak esp. when facing consumers. Consumers don't tend to optimize for "safety" when they are looking for fun. It's rarely ever the primary hook.

I think most of the concepts that pushed crypto and web3 forward in the last decade aren't palatable to the average consumer. For that matter, most of the concepts of web2 aren't even known to the average consumer. The fallacy is assuming philosophy drives user behavior. User experience is supreme.

as zoomers go into their 30s, they become the average consumer. UI is only as good as the capability of the person using it. i mean this already applies to so many SaaS apps that require a level of tech savvy. notion, obsidian, roam, zapier…etc. it’s churn. i really don’t think the web3 UX is such a big deal.
