Get followed, otherwise engaged by well connected accounts.

Artists and photographers have trouble ranking because they don't converse (reply). They share media to root feed only, get nowhere, then give up.

Participate meaningfully in other people's conversations... for awhile... first. Avoid personal promotion.

Excellent, loved reading this. Meaningful interactions is the key and also not just taking in the comments but looking around searching interesting topics.
