my new rabbithole this week has been learning about japans post surrender transition to being occupied by US military — kinda nuts General Douglas MacArthur was basically president of japan for 6 years

they didn't take loosing that well, but curious once the emperor surrounded they all followed suit.

there doesn’t seem to have been much internal violence post surrender tho which tbh i consider to be taking the loss pretty well tbh 

but yeah emperor pleading for citizen cooperation seemed to have made huge impact

I think they where so fed up with it all that where just ready to move on when someone with higher status gave them the OK to do so.

but yeah japanese culture is really funny and different so who tf knows
