my new rabbithole this week has been learning about japans post surrender transition to being occupied by US military — kinda nuts General Douglas MacArthur was basically president of japan for 6 years

there doesn’t seem to have been much internal violence post surrender tho which tbh i consider to be taking the loss pretty well tbh 

but yeah emperor pleading for citizen cooperation seemed to have made huge impact

they didn't take loosing that well, but curious once the emperor surrounded they all followed suit.

like a queen bee kinda move

reading Made in Japan by Akio Morita (the founder of Sony) and learning a ton

particularly interesting how breaking up the oligarch families has led to Japan being so egalitarian today
