Respectfully offering my take: AI has no taste. It offers what is most common. Human taste is the grand arbiter, and developing that taste requires an enormous amount of training. That alone is proof of work. AI is infinite concept artists curated by their lead taste-maker. That’s how I see it.

I love that response. One of the odder things about the AI-assisted discussion is that AI’s llm is based on words that humans invented and used in (literally) countless ways. I learned to write by reading other people’s work and imitating it until I found my own voice. I am the sum of the writers before me.

They are not Hitch-like. I’m a pop culture guy. We did agree on Marilyn, and his take(s) on Warhol deserved center stage. Since I’m name-dropping, I was thrilled to learn from Harold Bloom that we shared admiration for Hitch’s writing, which elevated my opinion of both men.

Christopher Hitchens suggested I pitch VF, I was too nervous at the time. By the time I stopped giving a shit about rejections, he was gone. Alas! My editor there was terrific. Then she moved on, and so did I. 😉

I’m a writer by temperament and trade, been at it a long time. Essays for Vanity Fair, The Paris Review, etc.. I wrote a couple of bestselling novels, did some short fiction, a failed graphic novel, and so on.

Good stuff in there. Love the appearance of “thought-terminating cliches” and believe it’s redundant because all cliches terminate thought. We also call a cliche “received wisdom” implying passivity. Hard to strike that balance between feeling part of something and being a dickish gatekeeper. 😜

I dig the colors and shapes—simple without being simplistic. Ideas: 1. increase collectibility by offering special edition structures. Wonders of the Ancient World, etc. 2. Collab with famous architects on future editions, etc.
