Is the term “public good” being thrown around too generously in the web 3 community?

Remember, public good has to be “non-excludable and non-rivalrous,” meaning it can be consumed by many individuals simultaneously without reducing its availability to others

Just because a protocol is open source or on a blockchain doesn’t mean it’s a public good. True public goods should theoretically benefit everyone, not just those who are directly invested or token holders within the ecosystem

Yes I think you’re right and totally agree with that. And that’s what I love most about this community :) 
It just pisses me off when crypto bros greenwash the word for their benefit

Agreed that the term is thrown around too much, too often. Especially when it comes to apps, protocols and blockspace in general.

..But "Public Goods" also implies a shift in focus from the apps and infra to the ledgers, culture, knowledge and social graphs which are derived from them.

Those things *are* public goods in the truest sense, and produce greater and greater value the more they are used, which in turn makes the underlying network more useful.

...it's a virtuous cycle by which the production of network, club and private goods in our p2p network funds the production of the real public goods.

I agree and add "de facto" to theoretically
