Ive heard these very uncomfortable high pitched ringing sounds by a “no loitering” sign in tokyo and inside cvs stores in nyc.

I find this to be a dubious and kind of evil surveillance tactic, because it is quietly limiting who is welcome in certain spaces without confrontation. I’d consider this part of the “hostile architecture” category of public space interventions
