Ga everyone Portrait. The Gnaoua of Marrakech (1/1) In the labyrinthine alleys of Moroccoโs ancient medinas, the hypnotic beats of the *guembri* and the clatter of *qraqeb* (metal castanets) summon listeners to a spiritual trance. The Gnaoua, descendants of West African slaves, have preserved their ancestral traditions through vibrant music and mystic rituals. Dressed in colorful robes and tasseled hats, their performances blend Sufi devotion with African heritage, creating a bridge between past and present. Each year, the Essaouira Gnaoua Festival transforms the coastal city into a pulsating celebration of unity and transcendence. More than musicians, the Gnaoua are keepers of a sacred legacy, echoing the soul of Morocco.
