Shill me an open source / free typeface that's better than Inter?

Replacing Inter is difficult, but I think DM Sans is the closest in terms of readability and clarity, with a bit of softness and personality. Also, it has recently been updated and supports variable fonts

I agree but you know what, the DM Mono is really hard to handle. In the end it's always a question of use case

Inter + DM Mono is a pretty beautiful combo
