One of the things that's very different about Orbiter is custom domains are only available on paid plans. This is for two reasons: 1. Our free plan is incredibly generous, so we need a reason for people to want to upgrade 2. Contrary to popular belief, issuing SSL certs and renewing them is not free That said, if we allowed custom domains on free plans, what would be a reasonable reason to upgrade to paid?

I don’t have an opinion other than you’re providing an awesome service and should get value. I use heroku a lot and they used to have free instances. Now they’ve removed that and created a 5$ a month package that applies to your entire account, and provides 1 months worth of server hours distributed between instances in that tier. This web3 memetic tendency of “everything open for free forever” will be absolutely toxic to creating long term sustainable organisations.

Yep, I’ve always struggled with the perception in web3 that everything should be free. https://orbiter.host/blog/expect-businesses-to-be-sustainable/
