Finally, regarding value, it’s the classic intrinsic vs extrinsic value question

One simple way I approach this, is to think of all the creatives and thinkers that never gained a recognition or following.

Peers as mirrors and acknowledgers of “real” value makes something real (might be centuries after)

As regards cultures, the west reveres the “self made man”, obfuscating the societal support structure that enables such success

Japanese culture of the group has the benefit of highlighting power of team,  but this can miss out the fact that some individuals are multiplicative, not incremental contributors
