Rosy Wings - A roseate spoonbill lifts gracefully into flight, scanning the wetlands for food to bring back to its nest. The sky that day was a flat white, hazy overcast that offered little light to work with. At the time, I remember feeling frustrated by the absence of blue skies and golden sunlight. But years later, while revisiting my collection of spoonbill images, I stumbled upon this 2019 shot and saw it with fresh eyes. What once felt like a limitation now lends the image a quiet, almost ethereal mood.

Two Eastern Screech owlets take a peek out from the nest to survey the area around them. Eastern Screech-Owls are active at night and are far more often heard than seen. Most bird watchers know this species only from its trilling or whinnying song.

Tropical Lookout - A gray morph Eastern Screech owlet peers down from the tree above, newly emerged from its dark nest, its wide eyes taking in a world suddenly alive with wonder.

Master Diver - Osprey are truly the masters of diving and catching fish... The morning started out pretty active, there was an average of four or five Osprey usually at a time circling in the air. The winds were perfect this morning so that they were flying towards us when diving, with the light and wind at our backs. The Osprey really put a show, with over 50 dives in less than 2 hours. Their catch rate that morning was about 20% through the breaking waves, changing tide, and heavy winds.
